While working in the Galesburg Illinois area, I stumbled upon a neat little covered bridge that spans the Spoon River. The Wolf Covered Bridge crosses over the Spoon River, namesake of the "Spoon River Anthology", written by Edgar Lee Masters. Other than the graffiti on the bridge, it is a really neat relic from the past. This river has a connection to Abraham Lincoln, as told in the poems of the Anthology. My wife Susan's family plays a part in the poetic history of Abraham Lincoln. Hannah Armstrong, Susan's 4th great grandfather's sister-n-law, wrote a letter to President Lincoln, asking that her ailing son Douglas, be released from the Army. This was written by Edgar Lee Masters in one of the collection of the Spoon River Anthology. There is also a recollection of the "Almanac Trial" in which Duff Armstrong, another son of Hannah's, was represented by Abraham Lincoln in a murder trial. The relative was found not guilty based on testimony that was shot down based on the almanac.
