Back in August, we took a little trip to Indianola Iowa to deliver some hot air ballooning artifacts to the National Ballooning Museum. The artifacts were from the hot air balloon exhibit at the old Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum which closed down last year. The hot air balloon baskets and other artifacts were originally donated by the Balloon Associaton of Greater Illinois, a group that my wife and I were charter members back in 1990. When the museum closed, we took physical posession to deliver the items to a museum here in Springfield Illinois. Unfortunately, the local museum could not find room to display the items, so we contacted the National Museum, and the rest is history. Also delivered to the museum was a hot air ballon pin collection that was created as a memorial to our daughter Hillary, who died in January, 1991. All of the items will eventually be on display in the National Museum, and I cant wait to make a trip out to see them.
The drive over was a long one, but it was a pleasant drive, and here are a couple of shots from that trip.
